Muhlenberg College is a private liberal arts college located in Allentown, which is a city in the US state of Pennsylvania, serving as the county seat of Lehigh County, with a population which exceeds 106 600 inhabitants (2000), making it the state's 3rd most populous city and USA's 239th largest one.
The college was established in 1848 and gets its name from Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, the patriarch of the Lutheran Church in America. It was founded by Reverend Samuel K. Brobst, a Reformed Lutheran minister, and was initially known as the Allentown Seminary.
It presently offers its students `40 majors in the humanities, fine arts, social sciences and natural sciences, in addition to strong pre-professional programs in such areas as pre-health, pre-law, pre-theology, business and education.`
Muhlenberg's athletic teams are known as the Mules and they compete in the Centennial Conference as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference, at the NCAA Division III level. Their distinctive colors are cardinal red and gray.
